Step 1
Trigger
A vehicle enters your system via rego, VIN, or chassis
Step 2
Check
InfoAgent returns risk flags: stolen, written-off, encumbered, VIN mismatch
Step 3
Act
Your system blocks, flags, escalates - automatically
Every check is returned in structured JSON, so your system can parse the results programmatically and take the right action - whether that’s blocking a transaction, flagging it for manual review, or simply recording the result for audit.
Available Checks
Our API returns a comprehensive set of fraud and risk indicators with every lookup. Here’s what you can check:
Risk Check
What It Catches
Stolen Vehicle Alert
Flags vehicles recorded on the national stolen vehicle register - including report date, jurisdiction, vehicle type, and summary details. Catches stolen vehicles before you finance, insure, sell, or scrap them.
Written-Off Status
Returns WOVR (Written-Off Vehicle Register) records including statutory vs repairable classification, damage codes, and full notification history. Identifies vehicles with undisclosed damage histories.
PPSR / Encumbrance
Checks the Personal Property Securities Register for existing security interests - returning secured party details, registration dates, and financial encumbrance records. Prevents lending or buying against already-encumbered assets.
VIN Verification
Cross-checks the VIN against official NEVDIS records. Detects mismatches between the provided VIN and the registered vehicle - a key indicator of cloning, re-birthing, or identity fraud.
Registration Status
Confirms whether the vehicle is currently registered, its expiry date, and jurisdiction. Flags unregistered or lapsed-registration vehicles that may indicate abandonment, theft, or administrative fraud.
Registration Locality
Returns the suburb and state where the vehicle is officially registered. Useful for detecting geographic anomalies - e.g. a vehicle purportedly in one state but registered in another.
Vehicle Identity Cross-Check
Returns verified make, model, variant, body type, engine, and compliance details. Allows comparison against claimed or declared vehicle details to detect misrepresentation.
All checks can be run individually or combined in a single API call - so your system gets a complete risk profile for the vehicle in one request, in under 300ms.
Common Fraud Scenarios
Our data doesn’t just flag abstract risk categories - it catches specific, real-world fraud patterns:
Selling a stolen vehicle
The vehicle appears on the national stolen register. InfoAgent flags it instantly on lookup
Disguised write-offs
A statutory write-off is cosmetically repaired and resold without disclosure. Our WOVR data reveals the full damage history
Double financing
A vehicle with an existing PPSR encumbrance is used as collateral for a second loan. InfoAgent’s PPSR check catches the existing security interest.
VIN cloning / re-birthing
A stolen vehicle’s VIN is replaced with a legitimate one from a written-off or scrapped vehicle. VIN verification against NEVDIS detects the mismatch.
Registration fraud
A vehicle claimed to be registered and roadworthy has a lapsed or cancelled registration. Our registration status check confirms the real position
Misrepresentation of identity
The vehicle is described as a different make, model, or variant than what’s actually registered. Our identity cross-check catches the discrepancy
PPSR Status Monitoring Free for 14 Days

After running a PPSR check, InfoAgent monitors the security interest status for up to 14 days at no extra cost. If anything changes - a new encumbrance is registered, an existing one is removed, or the status shifts - you’ll know. This means you don’t need to re-run paid searches just to stay current on recent transactions.

-
Thousands of previously written-off vehicles re-enter the market each year
-
Vehicle identity fraud (cloning, re-birthing) remains a persistent law enforcement challenge
